Could anybody give me a hand tomorrow (Saturday) at about 3pm to help me carry some of my stuff down the hill from the main Hallam University building, and onto a train? I just have more than I am capable of carrying on my own.

I'll give you hugs and that.

It is suggested to me that perhaps I ought to announce officially my leaving party here also, for the benefit of those who aren't on Facebook, or whom I'm unable to contact otherwise.

This Saturday from 8pm, House o'Hallams. It will be spiffing.

Further to my last post (uhm, seven weeks ago), work has procured a buttload of free tickets to this Friday's Pet Sounds. If you fancy coming, we'll be at the, uhm. Dove and Rainbow? Yeah, let's go to the Dove and Rainbow. Anyway, we'll be there from ten, with a fistful of free tickets, and then heading to the O2 sometime before midnight. Tell your friends!

Oh hai. So this week I've been researching nightclubs for work (seriously), and Pet Sounds caught my eye. It's the Academy's alternative night, seems to play a whole load of fun stuff and I think is well worth trying.

I am also intrigued to discover how it can substantiate its claim to be 'Sheffield's biggest clubnight.'

Anyone up for it?

EDIT:</a> Okay so apparently we're just going to Saturday Corp instead BUT let's totally do this some other weekend, yeah?

[info]ohnefuehlen and [info]lux_fiat are up for the weekend again! And this time we're really fucking going for it. Apologies in advance for hammering on about this to everybody tomorrow.

Friday
Beer Festival at the Interval followed by Corp.

Saturday
Brunch at The Harley, possibly followed by a walk in the Peak District

Sunday

Monday
Hell knows, man, we're open to suggestions. Maybe... more Corp?

To register for updates text GUN to my phone number and I'll keep you appraised of our movements.

I recently applied for a job at the Beebeesee for which I am woefully underqualified, and wrote the following in response to one of the questions.

Radio 4 is relaunching its website in several phases during 2009. Please suggest three important changes you'd make to our web offer. )

Delightfully, this has now appeared: http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/help/sitetour/

OKAY THEN. This month is going to be a little bit mental, so apologies for the crossposting and the informative rather than invitational nature of this post.

(Before we get going, have you seen the news about that cricketer who was promised presidential-style security and was then surprised that the guards were mysteriously absent when their cavalcade was attacked by gunmen? Seriously)

My mate James is up from London, as long as it doesn't snow. (Lux is here too). On the Friday we will be going out to Corp, on the Saturday we will be watching the Royal Rumble and then stupid movies, and on Sunday we will be having lunch in the Dev Cat. If you want to know exact times you'll have to call or text.

w/e/c 13 March
Sean and Lux are up! At some point we will be watching No Way Out because ZOMG Elimination Chamber Matches, and there are some great storylines on at the moment we want to know more about. Sean apparently has a list of food he wants to eat in Sheffield so I guess they'll be doing that?

w/e/c 20 March
Man, I don't know. It's Record Hop again? It's worth going a couple of times but the house seems to be getting bored of it. Requiem for a Dream is on at Film Unit and I haven't seen it the single time I will apparently want to.

w/e/c 27 March
Riina is back in town! I ought to buy The Incredible Hulk and we will watch it and eat vegan food.

This is an extremely important and hopefully influential report, that Radio 4 was justifiably banging on about all morning.

Some of the conclusions are controversial if you jump to the same narrative and generalisations that the tabloids will. Auntie reports them in a very objective way. My guess is that The Thunderer &c will leave out, or fundamentally misunderstand, this line:

Child-rearing is one of the most challenging tasks in life and ideally it requires two people.

EDIT: I have found The Thunderer's article, and it unsurprisingly rams home the point that it's all your fault your marriage breaks down if you go back to work, and that you absolutely must stay with your husband because if you don't it'll fuck up your kids.

I know I'm far too late to be commenting on last week's wind turbine, but I just saw The Sun's headline and it reminded me how piqued I get at this issue.

If you see something flying, and you don't know what it is, it's a UFO.

That's it. That's what the initialism bloody means. You cannot 'prove' an object is a UFO, because you cannot prove a negative. It is a UFO *until* you prove otherwise.

If you want to try to prove a UFO is some fashion of extra-terrestrial transportation, well good fucking luck and stop pissing about with my language.

I had a dream that we were hanging out with Will Smith last night, and he said he's done that kind of thing already (Hancock, most obviously) so he doesn't want to play Cap. I'm disappointed but we'll just have to keep thinking.

Oh dudes! The Hold Steady are playing The Leadmill this Sunday. Now I know what you're thinking: why would you, a discerning gentleman or lady, need to go out to watch The Hold Steady, when you could just sit at home listening to The Who, imagining Roger Daltrey has a slightly more annoying voice and is singing about pimps?

WHY INDEED?

I- I got nothing. I want to go anyway, though.

If any of you know anybody in Toronto, Kate Beaton, Emily Horne and Ryan North from Canada are going to see Passchendaele, a movie about Canada, written, directed by and starring Paul Gross, who is Canada.

Details, delightfully, are here.
